World Mental Health Day | Small Ways To Improve Your Mental Health
This World Mental Health Day we want to raise awareness around dealing with anxiety and mental health, supporting this years theme set by the World Foundation of Mental Health, ‘Mental health is a universal human right’. Anxiety is a normal emotion in us all, but sometimes it can get out of control and become a mental health problem. We strongly believe self-care is the best form of care. Remember to always be kind to yourself, especially this today.
Dealing with anxiety and mental health can be hard. But there are some things we can do to manage these tough feelings. What works for someone else may not work for you, don't be afraid to try new and different ways to help you on your journey.
Dealing with anxiety and mental health can be hard. But there are some things we can do to manage these tough feelings. What works for someone else may not work for you, don't be afraid to try new and different ways to help you on your journey.
We have put together a couple of suggestions below to help you this World Mental Health Awareness Day:
- Focus on your breathing, concentrate on the feeling of your body as you breathe in and out.
- Exercise, move your body. It doesn't need to be high intensity movement but rather gentle stretches, quiet yoga or a long walk.
- Journaling your worries, thoughts and anxious feelings can help identify your triggers and encourage them to leave your mind, so that you can move on with the rest of your day.
- Challenge your thoughts and stop them from overwhelming you. It is healthy to ask yourself questions like, is what you're worrying about likely to happen? Are you being realistic?
- Spend time outdoors in nature. Feel fresh air on your skin, connect and immerse yourself in nature's beauty.
- Connect & share with people you trust. Being able to talk to people about how you feel can help to reduce your anxiety.
- Rest, try to have a full nights rest, don't be too hard on yourself, tomorrow is always a new day.
- Eating healthy food helps to regulate blood sugar and gives energy to live well, try to steer clear of caffeine & sugar before bed.
