Understanding the Fragrance Pyramid

To layer effectively, it helps to understand how fragrance is built. Every fine perfume, including those in the STORIES collection, is structured around the fragrance pyramid:

• Top Notes: These are the first impressions — bright, fleeting, often citrus or herbal.

• Heart Notes: The heart forms the core of the fragrance. Florals, spices or fruits often live here.

• Base Notes: Deep and enduring, base notes like woods, musks, and resins ground the fragrance and give it longevity.

When layering, you work with this architecture, either reinforcing certain elements, softening others, or adding contrast.

The goal isn’t to overpower — it’s to harmonise.

How We Layer at STORIES

At STORIES Parfums, we’ve designed our collections with layering in mind. Each Eau de Parfum is meticulously blended to allow for seamless combinations — not only between fragrances but across the full body collection.

1. Begin in the Bath or Shower

Start with our scented Hand & Body Wash, formulated to cleanse without stripping, SLS Free. The warm water opens up your pores and prepares your skin to hold onto the scent longer.

Choose a wash that echoes the fragrance you plan to wear — for instance, pairing the fresh bergamot and orange blossom of STORIES Nº.01 with the matching wash creates a clean, citrusy tone from the outset.

2. Nourish with a Scented Moisturiser

Scent clings to moisturised skin. Our Hand & Body Lotion hydrates deeply while building a soft base of fragrance and is paraben free.  Apply generously, allowing the notes to settle into your skin.

Layering a moisturiser with similar base notes (like amber or sandalwood) can anchor a lighter perfume, giving it depth and staying power.

3. Finish with an Eau de Parfum

Once your skin is hydrated, apply your Eau de Parfum. Spray on pulse points — wrists, behind ears, collarbone — where your body’s warmth helps to diffuse the scent.

For best results, spray STORIES Nº.02 first, followed by STORIES Nº.01 layered on top. Allow the fragrance to settle naturally on the skin—do not rub your wrists together, as this can disrupt the natural dry-down and alter the scent!

Tone, Texture and Season: The Creative Side of Layering

Fragrance layering is a creative act. It allows you to change the tone of a scent — making a floral fragrance woodier, or a warm perfume lighter. It also adds texture, giving your fragrance more dimension.

Here are a few ways to explore:

• Add Brightness: If a scent feels too heavy for daytime, layer with a citrus-forward lotion to bring light and freshness.

• Add Depth: Love a light floral but want it to last? Anchor it with a base note-rich moisturiser or body oil.

• Shift with the Season: In winter, layer with richer, woody scents. In summer, lift the fragrance with green or citrus top notes.

Layering With Confidence: A Few Tips

• Stay Within a Scent Family: When starting out, layer fragrances that share similar notes — florals with florals, woods with woods.

• Don’t Overdo It: Layering doesn’t mean louder — start with small amounts and build.

• Let It Settle: Fragrance evolves. What’s sharp at first may mellow beautifully.

• Test on Skin, Not Strips: Your skin’s chemistry affects how scents develop. Try combinations directly on the skin.
