Turning to the Sun

Turning to the Sun

The legend behind the floral notes at the heart of STORIES Nº. 01.

According to Greek Legend, a water nymph named Clytie loved Helios, the God of the Sun. When his love for her grew cold and he abandoned her for someone else, she was overcome with grief. She removed all her clothes, refused to eat or drink and sat on the rocks charting the path of the sun. After nine days, the gods took pity on her and turned her into a cluster of purple flowers understood to be heliotrope, from the Greek ‘Helios’ (sun) and ‘tropein’ (turning).

The bright, violet flowers and heady scent of the flower make it a popular choice for butterflies and perfumers alike. It oscillates between a sweet cherry pie scent and an aroma akin to vanilla. It is one of the delicate floral heart notes of STORIES Nº. 01, alongside Egyptian Jasmine and Cyclamen from Somaliland.

Connecting Heart Notes

The heart notes of a fragrance are essential. They act as connectors to balance volatile top notes and deep base notes. They ease the transition from lively to sensual so the story flows seamlessly. They can be cool, sweet, natural or warm, depending on the ingredients.

Jasmine is part of the Sensual Floral Facet, a subdivision of the Floral Facet. Each of the blossoms in this olfactory profile are white. White blossoms do not attract pollinators therefore the flower emits an odour to draw attention to itself. This powerful scent brings an almost carnal edge to a fragrance.

King of the Oils

The snow-white Jasmine blossoms must be picked at dawn as the oil content diminishes as the day wanes. The oil derived from the flowers is known as ‘The King of the Oils’ due to its masculine energy. Jasmine drives STORIES Nº. 01 forward with passion and vivacity.

Heliotrope, Jasmine and Cyclamen build on the citrus opening of STORIES Nº. 01 with their suggestively sweet, yet carnal scent. This effervescent blend creates a strong floral core of passionate intensity that draws the wearer deeper into the story of the Eau de Parfum. Will you stay the course?
